Spooky Sleep Myths: Fact vs. Fiction

Spooky Sleep Myths: Fact vs. Fiction

October is the season of ghost stories and spooky tales, but some of the scariest myths out there are about sleep. At The Mattress Company, we’ve heard it all, so we thought it would be fun to bust a few myths this month. Don’t worry, these “scary stories” have happy endings.

🛏️ Myth #1: The Firmer the Mattress, the Better

Fiction! A rock-hard mattress isn’t automatically good for your back. The right support depends on your body type, sleeping position, and personal comfort preferences. Sometimes a plush hybrid or medium-feel bed does more for spinal alignment than an ultra-firm option.

🌙 Myth #2: You Can “Catch Up” on Sleep Over the Weekend

Fiction! Staying up late all week and trying to sleep in on Saturday and Sunday doesn’t reset your body clock. While an extra nap might help, consistent, quality sleep is the real solution.

👥 Myth #3: Couples Have to Compromise on Comfort

Fiction! With split king setups, each person gets their own feel and their own adjustable base, no need to fight over firm vs. soft. Plus, if you only need one Twin XL, it can be separated.

📱 Myth #4: Scrolling Helps You Fall Asleep

Fiction! Blue light from screens actually signals your brain to stay alert. That “one more TikTok” before bed might be what’s keeping you up. Try reading a book or listening to calming music instead.

😴 Myth #5: Old Mattresses Are Fine as Long as They Look Okay

Fiction! Even if your mattress looks fine on the outside, the inside materials may be breaking down. If you wake up achy, it might be time to replace it especially if it’s over 8 years old.

This Halloween season, don’t let sleep myths haunt your nights. The truth is, a supportive mattress and healthy bedtime habits are what really lead to sweet dreams.

So this October, trade the ghost stories for a good night’s sleep you’ll wake up ready to take on the day (pumpkin spice latte optional 🎃).
